Ontario, Canada has one of the best health care systems in the world. We provide universal, comprehensive, publicly funded health services for all eligible Ontario residents, including Canadian citizens, permanent residents and eligible immigrants.
Publicly Funded Organizations
Ontario funds a variety of health care organizations including 155 hospitals that operate on 211 different sites across the province.
Ontario Health Insurance
Under the Canada Health Act, Ontario is required to fund necessary hospital and medical or primary care (i.e., physician) services. But we go beyond those legal obligations to provide a wide range of other health services.
Primary Care
Primary Health Care (PHC) is the first point of contact between a patient and the health care system.
Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs)
LHINs are not-for-profit entities responsible for planning, integrating and funding local health services. They plan and manage the health services delivered in hospital, long-term care facilities, community health centres, community support services and mental health agencies.
