Medical Culture & Communication

The intention of this course is to provide International Medical Graduates (IMGs) with the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary to bridge the cultural gap so that their chances of securing a satisfying position in the Canadian Health Care System will be enhanced.

This is an orientation and skill development program to help IMGs gain perspective on:

  • The Canadian Health Care System
  • The Canadian Culture of Medicine
  • The Professional Role

To enhance the development of:

  • Content Skills: What Doctors Communicate
  • Process Skills: How They Do it
  • Perceptual Skills: What are they Thinking and Feeling?

The course consists of five sessions. You are expected to attend all five sessions.

Term 5: April / May

  • Session 1 - Thursday, April 12th, 2012
  • Session 2 - Thursday, April 19th, 2012

Term 6: May / June

Notes:

The course is free of charge. Space is limited. Register early to reserve your spot!

Registration is based on eligibility & a first come / first served basis.

Eligibility Criteria:

You must:

  • Be an International Medical Graduate
  • Be a resident of Ontario
  • Have a demonstrated English fluency at CLB
  • Level 7 or higher (or equivalent - IELTS, TOEFL)
  • Have a passing score on the Medical Council of Canada Evaluating Exam (MCCEE)
  • Be planning to apply for the next residency match cycle of the Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS)
  • Commit to all five dates of the course
  • Be a registered client of the HFO MRA Access Centre. If you are not a client of the Access Centre, please register online.

How to Register for Session:

Please complete the Course Registration Form and submit to the Access Centre.

You will be contacted by email to confirm that we have received your application.

Your application will be assessed and you will either:

  1. Be contacted by your Advisor to discuss your eligibility for the course, OR
  2. Receive an email confirmation that you are registered for a particular term.
