Why more Ontario doctors are choosing to incorporate.

Ontario offers two incredible tax benefits to physicians who incorporate for the purposes of practicing medicine.

  1. Incorporated physicians in Ontario can pay as little as 18% tax on corporate income up to $400,000 per year. (Compare this to paying over 40% tax on personal income !)
  2. Incorporated physicians can split their income with family members. Income splitting allows incorporated physicians to shift income within their family and take advantage of lower tax brackets, deductions and credits available to each family member. In Ontario, physicians can effectively split their income by first issuing non-voting shares and then dividends to a spouse, child or parents.
