Program Evaluation

The Emergency Department Coverage Demonstration Project (EDCDP) was established in October 2006 to support high-need hospitals by serving as an interim measure of last resort to avert ED closures during the implementation of other provincial ED Action Plan initiatives. To determine the future direction of EDCDP, HealthForceOntario Marketing and Recruitment Agency (HFO MRA) engaged a consulting firm to conduct an evaluation to assess:

  • whether EDCDP objectives have been met;
  • what impact EDCDP has had; and
  • what unintended consequences have arisen, all relative to contributing to an effective and sustainable ED system for Ontario.

The evaluation project was launched in May 2009 and is now complete. Over the coming months HFO MRA looks forward to working with key partners to discuss the report, to develop an implementation action plan and continue EDCDP operations. In the meantime, HFO MRA thanks all those who participated in the evaluation, and welcomes your ongoing input. Questions or comments may be directed to  Roz Smith at r.smith@healthforceontario.ca.
