• Eligible to receive a daily stipend as outlined in the contract with the rural physician:
  • Fee For Service (FFS), Family Health Group (FHG) or Blended Salary Model Family Health Team (FHT): $600/day
  •  Family Health Network (FHN) or Family Health Organization (FHO): $700/day
  •  Rural and Northern Physician Group Agreement (RNPGA) 1 & 2: $800/day
• Daily stipend is based on the number of respite days a locum physician commits to in his/her contract with the rural physician.

Locum Physician Premium

• A premium is added to the stipend for locum physicians who provide coverage in communities with Rurality Index of Ontario (RIO) score that is greater than 60:
  •  RIO ≥ 60 and < 75: $50/day
  •  RIO ≥ 75: $100/day

Check the community’s RIO score.

Locum Physician Travel Stipend

• A maximum of one round-trip (1 day travel each, to and from the assignment) may be claimed.
  • < 2 hours of travel: $0
  •  ≥ 2 hours and ≤ 4 hours with a minimum of 150 km travelled: $300/trip (one way)
  • ≥ 4 hours, for placements < 4 days: $300/trip (one way)
  •  ≥ 4 hours, for placements ≥ 4 days: $500/trip (one way)

    Note: travel stipend cannot be claimed on days which are part of the assignment coverage.

 Other Locum Physician Billings/Earnings

Fee-For Service (FFS)

• A locum physician covering for an eligible fee-for-service physician will use his/her own billing number;
•  Billings will be split based on percentage agreed upon between the locum and rural physicians prior to start of assignment;
•  Billings division will be outlined in the contract and signed by the locum and rural physicians;
•  A locum physician is eligible to access hospital on-call stipends.

 Rural and Northern Physician Group Agreement (RNPGA 1 or 2)

• A locum physician is eligible to access hospital on-call stipends;

Blended Payment Model

• A locum physician negotiates with the Physician Group for any additional compensation beyond the stipend available through the Rural Family Medicine Locum Program (RFMLP);
• The amount will be set out in the contract that is signed between the locum physician, the Physician Group and HealthForceOntario Marketing and Recruitment Agency (HFO MRA);
• A locum physician is eligible to access hospital on-call stipends and bill fee-for-service for non-enrolled patients; not required to share these additional earnings with the Physician Group.
