Allied Health Professional Development Fund
The Allied Health Professional Development Fund is being offered once again in 2008/09.
The purpose of the Allied Health Professional Development Fund is to extend skill and knowledge development opportunities to the following regulated health professionals:
- Audiologists
- Dietitians
- Medical Laboratory Technologists
- Medical Radiation Technologists
- Occupational Therapists
- Pharmacists
- Physiotherapists
- Respiratory Therapists
- Speech-Language Pathologists
If you are a practicing, registered member of your respective regulatory college, you may be eligible to receive a reimbursement of up to a maximum of $1,500 for professional development courses and/or programs.
Electronic Health Library
The Fund has also invested in a three-year subscription to an electronic health library for practicing members of the nine eligible health professions. The library will give health professionals access to the most recent health care literature to help determine the best approach to evidence-based practice.

Health Professions Database
Our healthcare system relies on a range of health professionals, each with unique expertise, to meet the health needs of Ontarians. However, we know very little about the 40% of the regulated health workforce in Ontario who provide valuable services in areas such as diagnostics, mental health, obstetrics, oral and vision care, rehabilitation and therapeutics.

Underserviced Area Program
The Underserviced Area Program (UAP) helps underserviced communities recruit and retain health professionals to enhance access to health care. Designated underserviced areas have access to the UAP's recruitment and retention benefits.
There are two programs available to rehabilitation professionals:

Rehabilitation Professionals Incentive Grant Program
Up to $15,000, paid over three years, may be available to audiologists, chiropodists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and speech-language pathologists who relocate to fill positions in full-time Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care funded vacancies in Northern Ontario.

Community Assessment Visit Program
Health care professionals, including rehabilitation professionals, and their spouses may be reimbursed for travel and accommodation expenses within Ontario to visit a designated underserviced community to assess practice opportunities
