Government Funding for Nursing Employment and Tools

Learn about Ontario government programs and initiatives that can help nurses secure and maintain employment and for nursing tools.

Best Practice Guidelines Funded by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and developed by the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario, the Best Practice Guideline Program uses the highest quality evidence to support best practices in the delivery of nursing care and promotion of healthy work environments.
Grow Your Own Nurse Practitioner  Program repurposes MOHLTC funds already allocated to a Nurse Practitioner (NP) position to sponsor a local registered nurse to obtain NP education. Funds are used for salary continuance, education and related expenses while the nurse is receiving NP education. In exchange, the NP commits to a return-of-service to the organization providing the funding.
Late Career Nurse Initiative (LCNI)  Provides nurses 55 years of age and older with the opportunity to spend a portion of their time engaging in less physically demanding nursing roles, such as mentoring other nurses or teaching patients.
Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinics  Ontario is expanding the number of Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinics to increase access to primary health care services.
Nursing Community Assessment Visit Program  Provides reimbursement for travel and accommodation expenses incurred by nurses and their spouses who are interested in working in eligible underserviced communities.
Nursing Graduate Guarantee (NGG) Initiative

Ensures every new Ontario nursing graduate (RN and RPN) who wishes to work full-time in Ontario will have that opportunity.
Nursing Research Fund Provides funding for research that focuses on generating new knowledge on the management, organization and effectiveness of nursing human resources and services.
