What HealthForceOntario Can Do For You

The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care’s health human resources strategy – HealthForceOntario – is designed to make Ontario the employer of choice for health care providers. Supporting, attracting and developing our health force is one of the most important challenges in our health care system.
Nursing Strategy
The Nursing Strategy is a comprehensive, multi-faceted, cross-sectoral strategy that is intended to address the core reasons for instability in the nursing workforce; and improve access to care, reduce wait times and improve patient, client and resident outcomes by increasing recruitment and retention of health care professionals.
The strategy will focus on:
- Full Employment of Nurses
The government has designed policy to encourage and support employers to increase the percentage of nurses working full time. In addition, the government has targeted $50M annually, for the creation and maintenance of full-time positions for nurses in the province. To date, these funds have resulted in an increase in new full- time opportunities in hospitals, and we will continue to work with employers to increase the percentage of nurses employed full time.
- Recruitment and Retention
Improving recruitment and retention of nurses in Ontario is critical for addressing nursing supply issues.
- Creating Positive and Rewarding Work Environments
Creating positive and rewarding work environments will make Ontario an even more attractive place for nurses to work, and that is why the government has already invested funding to improve work environments for nurses and to make them safer.
