Massage Therapists

The College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO) is the regulatory body for massage therapists in Ontario. The CMTO is dedicated to excellence in protecting the public, serving its members, and promoting the highest possible quality of the practice of massage therapy in a safe and ethical manner.
Registration Requirements
To practise as a Massage Therapist in Ontario, internationally educated massage therapists must hold a Certificate of Registration and meet the requirements set out by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario. To become eligible for the Certificate of Registration, internationally educated massage therapists must meet the following registration requirements:
- Complete the Credential and Prior Learning Assessment (CPLA)
- Have an evaluation of education and complete any additional education required to meet the requirement for education that provides equivalent competencies to the massage therapy programs in Ontario
- Complete the Standards and Regulations Course and any other additional study required
- Complete the College’s Certification Examination
- Complete an English or French Language Assessment (if it’s indicated that the applicant’s first language is neither French nor English)
- Show proof of Canadian citizenship, Permanent Residency or authorization to work in Canada
- Obtain professional liability insurance in the minimum amount required by the College
- Complete and submit an Application for Registration
