Occupational Therapists

The College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO) is the regulatory body for occupational therapy practice in Ontario.
The College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario is a self-governing body that protects the public interest and improves their health and well-being by registering, regulating, and supporting the ongoing competency of occupational therapists.
Registration Requirements
To practise occupational therapy in Ontario, internationally educated occupational therapists must hold a Certificate of Registration and meet the requirements set out by the College. To become eligible for the Certificate of Registration, internationally educated occupational therapists must meet the following registration requirements:
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Proof of graduation from an occupational therapy program from a school, college or university approved by the College
- An academic assessment report from a credential agency approved by the College
- Meet the current practice hours required by the College
- Confirmation that you have passed the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) certification exam (if applying for a general certificate)
- Pass the examination approved by the College
- Evidence of language fluency, either in English or French
- Have professional liability insurance, which includes a sexual abuse therapy and counselling fund endorsement
