Opticians

The College of Opticians of Ontario (COO) regulates the profession of opticianry in Ontario. The COO is dedicated to supporting opticians in their delivery of high quality, safe and ethical care to the public of Ontario.
Registration Requirements
To practise as an optician in Ontario, internationally educated opticians must hold a Certificate of Registration and meet the requirements set out by the COO. To become eligible for the Certificate of Registration, internationally educated opticians must meet the following registration requirements:
- Applicant must be either a Canadian citizen, landed immigrant or hold a valid employment authorization
- Successful completion of the NACOR National Registration Exam
- Completion of an English or French Language Assessment
- The Committee will consider the applicant’s:
- International education;
- Professional experience;
- Licence to practise in their home country;
- Licensing examination enabling them to practise in their home country;
- Continuing education information;
- Other pertinent information relating to registration as an optician in Ontario.
