Underserviced Area Program
The Underserviced Area Program (UAP) helps underserviced communities recruit and retain health professionals to enhance access to health care. Designated underserviced areas have access to the UAP's recruitment and retention benefits.

There are two programs available to rehabilitation professionals:

  • Rehabilitation Professionals Incentive Grant Program
Up to $15,000, paid over three years, may be available to audiologists, chiropodists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and speech-language pathologists who relocate to fill positions in full-time Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care funded vacancies in Northern Ontario.
  • Community Assessment Visit Program
Health care professionals, including Rehabilitation Professionals, and their spouses may be reimbursed for travel and accommodation expenses within Ontario to visit a designated underserviced community to assess practice opportunities

The Health Professionals Recruitment Tour
The HPRT is an annual job fair that provides underserviced communities in Ontario with an opportunity to meet and recruit health care professionals, medical residents and students in medicine, nursing and rehabilitation. The Tour provides community representatives with a chance to discuss the medical opportunities and the lifestyles of their respective communities.

The Professional Association of Internes and Residents of Ontario (PAIRO) has partnered on this event with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines and worked with communities and stakeholders to help address the challenge of physician recruitment and retention.
