Transitional Councils Legislated under the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991
The College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario (CTCMPAO) has recently been established by the government of Ontario to regulate the practice of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) under the
Traditional Chinese Medicine Act, 2006 and
The Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991. It has the responsibility to regulate TCM practitioners and acupuncturists to ensure that the public of Ontario receives safe, effective, appropriate and ethical services.
Currently, the CTCMPAO is in a transitional phase which will last two to three years. During this time, the Transitional Council will be developing regulations, standards and policies that would permit individuals to register with the College. Once the Transitional Council completes its work, any individual claiming to be qualified to practise in TCM must register with the CTCMPAO in order to legally practise in Ontario.
