If you completed postgraduate training in the United States

There are three options available to you to practise in Ontario:

Option 1
As of December 1, 2008, you may be exempt from some of these requirements. You will be eligible to apply for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) if you:

  • Have successfully completed a residency program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.
  • Have been certified by a USA Specialty Board.
  • Have successfully completed the US Medical Licensing Examination or successfully completed an acceptable qualifying examination.
  • Hold or are eligible for an independent or full license or certificate of registration to practice without restrictions in the USA or Canada.

Option 2
To qualify for an independent certificate of registration from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO), you must:

In addition, if you are currently practicing in Canada or the United States, you may also qualify for the Registration through Practice Assessment program (RPA).
