On the map, Ontario is the centre of Canada — and the centre of the Canadian economy. The province is a magnet for manufacturing, finance, tourism and other industries. It’s also a leader in science and the arts. This is a big province – more than one million square kilometres and more than 12 million people. Our population includes people from 200 countries who speak as many as 130 languages. Our cities are vibrant and our scenery is spectacular.

What makes Ontario the employer of choice for today's physician?
Maybe it's the exceptional independence Ontario offers. Here you can create and control a practice without insurance company approvals or high malpractice fees. Or, perhaps it's our commitment to universal health care. In Ontario, everyone has the freedom to choose his or her own physician and to receive health care based on need, not on ability to pay.

This prosperous, democratic society also offers an excellent school system for children and a growing economy that can provide job opportunities for spouses and partners.

Of course, the deciding factor might be Ontario's celebration of diversity. Ontario is an exciting multicultural province where everyone is welcome and at home. With lifestyle options that range from wide open spaces to small town comfort to big city excitement, Ontario is a multicultural destination second to none. A world of opportunity awaits in Ontario. Consider growing your career and family in Ontario. Experience the difference!

The need for physicians
The Ontario government recognizes the valuable contribution Canadians who have studied medicine abroad, and other international medical graduates (IMGs), can make to the health care system in Ontario. The government is focusing on providing education and assessment programs, lowering barriers to registration for IMGs and other physicians, and creating rewarding work environments to attract physicians to Ontario.

It encompasses, in large measure, better access to training and employment, more transparency and increased opportunities in the health care system for international medical graduates. HealthForceOntario includes a number of initiatives designed to help the province maintain its vital health care workforce, encourage young people to consider health careers, and reduce the barriers for internationally educated health providers to work in Ontario.
