Medical Culture & Communication: Program for International Medical Graduates

The intention of this program is to provide International Medical Graduates with the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary to bridge the cultural gap so that their chances of securing a satisfying position in the Canadian Health Care System will be enhanced.

This program will focus on:

  • The Canadian health care system,
  • The Canadian culture of medicine, and
  • The professional role of a physician.

To enhance the development of:

  • Content skills: what doctors communicate.
  • Process skills: how they communicate.
  • Perceptual skills: what they are thinking and feeling.

To take part in this program (with both an online component and a classroom component), you must commit to all three dates and complete the online assignments. . You are expected to attend all sessions in order to obtain a certificate of completion.

This program is free of charge and will only be offered in English. Space is limited. Register early to reserve your spot!

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Be an International Medical Graduate.
  • Have demonstrated English fluency through a language test or your Advisor’s assessment.
  • If you are not already a client of the Access Centre, please register online.

How to Register:

Send an email to infosession@healthforceontario.ca. Please provide all of the following in your email:

  • Your name and contact information;
  • The course name and term that you would like to attend;
  • The language assessment(s) you have taken and your score(s); and
  • Brief explanation of why you are interested in attending this course.

Your email request will then be assessed and you will either:

  • Be contacted to discuss your eligibility for the course, OR
  • Receive an email confirmation that you are registered for a particular term.
