The Nursing Strategy is a comprehensive strategy that is intended to address the core reasons for instability in the nursing workforce. It also aims to increase recruitment and retention of health care professionals, thus improving access to care, reducing wait times and improving patient and resident outcomes.
The strategy focuses on:
Full Employment of Nurses
The government is committed to moving towards having 70 percent of Ontario's nurses employed full time. In fact, full-time nursing employment is embedded throughout the policy and program initiatives of Ontario's comprehensive nursing strategy.
Recruitment and Retention
The government is working to improve recruitment and retention of nurses in Ontario, which is critical to address nursing supply issues.
Creating Positive and Rewarding Work Environments
The government has invested funding to improve work environments for nurses and to make them safer. Creating positive work environments will make Ontario an even more attractive place for nurses to work.
