Regional Updates
- On Oct. 17, 2011, Brampton Civic Hospital opened its thirteenth operating room to perform lower acuity emergency surgery or minor surgical procedures. Two weeks later, the hospital added eight new beds to its Surgical Intermediate Care Unit (SIMCU), increasing the total number of critical care beds at the hospital to 44.
- Delegates from Hamad Medical City in Qatar visited Brampton Civic Hospital in Sept. 2011 to witness first-hand the hospital’s many innovative medical technologies.
- Headwaters Health Care Centre granted hospital privileges to its third mid-wife, expanding services for expectant mothers in Orangeville.
- Approval has been granted to build the Malton Community Health Centre as a satellite site of the Bramalea CHC to meet the specific needs of the residents of Malton.
- The Central West LHIN has published its Annual Business Plan for 2011-2012.
- Congratulations to the William Osler Health System Foundation’s successful Evening in Paris Gala which raised $400,000 for the Brampton Civic Hospital.
- Congratulations to Dr. Edward Rzadki who was honored for his 40 years of service at William Osler! Another 577 employees were also honored for their years of long service on Oct. 25, 2011.
- Leaders from William Osler Health System, The Credit Valley Hospital and Trillium Health Centre came together for a campaign rally that raised $77,015 for the United Way.
- Congratulations to the Canes Family Health Team on the successful recruitment of two new physicians! Dr. Maira Obnamia joined the team in Nov. 2011 and Dr. Rajneesh Sikri in Jan. 2011.
- The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care recently announced funding to support the provincial Primary Care Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) Lead Pilot Program. The creation of the Primary Care LHIN Lead role is intended to strengthen and focus the efforts that local primary care providers and LHINs have made to date to address local challenges. The new Primary Care LHIN lead for Central West LHIN will be announced soon.
