Regional Updates
- Norfolk General Hospital welcomes new President Kelly Isfan.
- Welcome to Jill Croteau, new Physician Recruitment and Retention Coordinator for the Niagara Region.
- Welcome to Frances Gregotski, Executive Director of the new Welland McMaster FHT. The team will be working with residents and medical students from McMaster University.
- Congratulations to Jane Walker, Hamilton Physicians, who has recruited a record 22 family physicians to full-time permanent and locum positions within the City of Hamilton area. Jane also presented on guidelines for physician retirement and succession planning at the Family Medicine Forum in Montreal. Keep up the great work Jane!
- Joanne Ferraccioli, Health Services, City of Port Colborne has been very busy:
- There are two new Nurse Practitioners in the city.
- A dedicated team in the city has been working on a Virtual Family Health Team pilot. As part of this, the HNHB CCAC will do rounds with all of the physicians once a month.
- It is also piloting a “screening tool for the early identification of at-risk seniors” for primary care use with patients 75 years and older. This will link them to community services that might include CCAC.
- Bridges Community Health Centre has moved to its permanent site at 277 King St., Port Colborne.
- The Brant Community Healthcare System has been awarded a 2011 Quality Healthcare Workplace Award from HealthForceOntario and the Ontario Hospital Association. A must-see part of this award is the “I want to wash my hands” video.
- McMaster has a new ER for children. The newest section of the McMaster emergency department was converted to a children-only facility in April.
- Congratulations to Joan Hatcher, Niagara Health System on recruiting 45 specialist physicians to work within the hospital. Joan is organizing a meet-and-greet for the new physicians in February 2012.
- The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care recently announced funding to support the provincial Primary Care Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) Lead Pilot Program. The creation of the Primary Care LHIN Lead role is intended to strengthen and focus the efforts that local primary care providers and LHINs have made to date to address local challenges. The new Primary Care LHIN lead for Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant LHIN will be announced soon.
