Regional Updates
- The Health Care Resources Council of the Greater Kitchener Waterloo Chamber of Commerce hosted its 13th annual Family Medicine Residents Weekend, Nov. 4-6. There were fourteen residents from across the province in attendance meeting local business representatives and community leaders, exploring various practice opportunities and learning why Kitchener Waterloo is such a great place to live, work and raise a family.
- Lutherwood Children’s Mental Health Centre had its grand opening on Nov. 18. Lutherwood offers residential treatment and assessment services, family crisis and prevention counselling, community and school-based interventions and a youth shelter.
- Do you know a first- or second-year medical student looking for a unique hands-on experience? ROMP (Rural Ontario Medical Program) Week is offered to medical students in Years 1 and 2 from Ottawa, Toronto, Queen’s and McMaster (Year 1 only). Learn more online.
- The Entité de planification pour les services en français dans les régions de Waterloo, Wellington, Hamilton, Niagara (French Language Health Planning Entity) has appointed Carole Lamoreaux as its first Executive Director. Congratulations and bienvenue!
- Congratulations to Kim Cocks, Cambridge Memorial Hospital. She won first place in the hospital’s Cancer Care Story Contest. Her entry entitled The Wedding Planners Miracle is a testament to the power of love and what can be accomplished when we work together.
- Wonderful news for Centre Wellington! Groves Memorial Community Hospital is constructing a new facility that will not only improve patient care but also include a Medical Education Campus – a wonderful health-care recruitment tool.
- The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care recently announced funding to support the provincial Primary Care Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) Lead Pilot Program. The creation of the Primary Care LHIN Lead role is intended to strengthen and focus the efforts that local primary care providers and LHINs have made to date to address local challenges. The new Primary Care LHIN lead for Waterloo Wellington LHIN will be announced soon.
