Registration Requirements for Internationally Educated Kinesiologists

To practise as a regulated health professional in Ontario, you must be a member of your profession’s regulatory college and hold a certificate of registration. Regulated health professionals are required by law to deliver competent, ethical and professional services, and are accountable to the public through their respective colleges.

The College of Kinesiologists of Ontario (CKO) is the regulatory body for the profession of kinesiology in Ontario. The CKO protects the public interest and sets requirements to enter the profession, establishes and enforces standards of kinesiology practice, and assures the quality of practice of the profession and the continuing competence of kinesiologists.

Ontario Registration Requirements

To practice as a Kinesiologist in Ontario, internationally educated kinesiologists must be registered with the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario. To become a registered kinesiologist, you must pass the College’s entry-to-practice exam. To be eligible to register for the exam, an internationally educated kinesiologist must meet the following requirements:

  1. Completion a course-by-course assessment of your international degree from an approved credentialing agency
  2. Provide evidence of language proficiency in English or French
  3. Submission of official or certified copy of your transcripts
  4. Completion of the Academic Assessment Form
  5. Completion of the Jurisprudence e-Learning Module
  6. Submit a criminal record check to the College
  7. If applicable, gather other supporting documents
    • Original letter of standing from any regulator in any jurisdiction where you are or were registered to practise any profession.
    • Copy of a change of name certificate, marriage certificate or other evidence of a legal name if your name is different from the name on any of your documentation.
  8. Completion of the application from and payment of the application fee
  9. Submit your application to be reviewed by the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario
    • If you meet the requirements: If your application is complete and you meet the requirements, within 15 business days of paying your application fee, you will be emailed a form to register for the exam and you will be asked to pay the exam fee.
    • If you do not meet the requirements: If for any reason you do not meet the registration requirements, you will be contacted by the College and your application may be referred to the Registration Committee for review.
  10. Pass the entry-to-practice exam
  11. Complete your registration with the College
  12. Get professional liability insurance
